How long does the program take?

Full time students complete our program in 9 months. Part time students complete our program in 12 months. The speed at which you complete our program is highly dependent on your dedication and motivation towards success.

How many hours?

North Dakota requires 1,500 instructional hours which includes bookwork and hands-on instruction. Skill Cutz Barber College ensures every student graduates with foundational knowledge in business management and a customer service skillset to ensure their success as a business owner shall that be the path they take.

How much does it cost?

Tuition for 2021-2022 is $18,000*, which includes all costs including books and a student tool kit. At the completion of the program, you will graduate with a Master of Barber’s license in the state of North Dakota.

*Applicants enrolling before July 1, 2022, may qualify for a $6,000 scholarship, bringing tuition to $12,000. Student tool kits are not provided by Skill Cutz Barber College if you apply for this scholarship.

*An application fee of $150 is also required at the time of pre-enrollment application submission.

How can I pay for it?

We offer several payment options to meet your unique needs. We have a partnership with Climb for those who wish to finance their education. We also offer our “Pay As You Learn” program.

Do you offer scholarships?

Yes, we offer a variety of scholarship options to those who qualify. Currently we are offering a $6,000 scholarship to qualifying new students who enroll before July 1, 2022. We have several other scholarship opportunities that are at the sole discretion of our scholarship committee.

What requirements do you have for students to enroll?

You must have a high school diploma or GED equivalence.

How do I enroll as a student?

Visit our pre-enrollment page for a list of pre-enrollment necessities along with a pre-enrollment form to complete. Within 48 business hours or receiving all of the documentation listed as well as the $150 application fee, our team will reach out to you to discuss next steps.

What will I learn?

We understand some learn best as a visual learner while others learn base hands-on. We embrace all learning styles. Our classes combine hands-on instruction with live demos, lectures, multimedia, and videos.

You’ll learn the essentials of barbering tools, cutting, and stying. You’ll also learn how to become an expert in free-hand clipper work and art, straight-razor shaves, fades, tapers, scalp and face massage, and much more. In addition, you will learn business leadership, merchandising, and retail skills.

Do you provide tools?

Your tool kit and the quality of tools within are vital to your success. If you are approved for financing through Climb, then your student kit will be provided to you at no additional cost. If you are approved for and taking advantage of a scholarship opportunity, then you are required to provide your own tool kit or purchase one through us.

Our student kits include hand-selected top-of-the-line essential tools from the industries top brand names such as Babyliss PRO and Wahl. Included are shears, clippers and trimmers, a straight-edge razor, combs, products, and much more.

Do you assist with placement after graduation?

Yes, most certainly we do. Many of our graduates start their career within Fargo’s fastest growing and most successful barbershop in North Dakota, our very own, Skill Cutz Barbershop & Salon. Our ultimate goal is to ensure every student leaves Skill Cutz Barber College ready to launch your dream career.

Who are your instructors?

Skill Cutz Barber College has more experience and success within its instructors than any other barber college in the state of North Dakota. With over 80 combined years of experience, there isn’t much our instructors haven’t seen, learned, or taught. Our team is passionate about continual growth of their knowledge and skill set and always seeking to learn more.

Several of our instructors are entrepreneurs that lead very successful businesses across North Dakota. In addition to their mastery of barbering, they bring a wealth of knowledge in business management, customer care, and strategic marketing.

In addition to the expertise of our instructors, Skill Cutz Barber College also has an expert in business, business management, financials, and leadership on its staff whose goal is to ensure your success above and beyond your skills behind the chair.

How much does a barber make in North Dakota?

The sky is the limit! If you follow our lead and embrace all the skillsets we teach our students, you can easily make $70,000 in your first year barbering. It’s all in the amount of time, energy, and effort you put in. What you put in is what you will get out.

Can I transfer my license to another state?

North Dakota requires 1,500 hours for a Master Barber license. Being that North Dakota carries some of the highest standards, your North Dakota license will meet the reciprocity license requirements found in many other states.

Can I work in Minnesota?

Although Skill Cutz Barber College is located in Fargo, a North Dakota border city to Minnesota, a separate license is required to practice in Minnesota.

I have no artistic ability, can I become a barber?

With an open mind and willingness to learn, you certainly can become a barber. Our team did not fall into being successful artists with clippers, but rather, they learned their skills and want to share that knowledge and skillset with you.
